Looking forward to the new year

This past year has been tough. I lost my grandpa and a dear friend early in the year. I spent a summer pretty much on my own. At the beginning of the year I got the opportunity to have my best friend live with me for a month and then later in the year, got to be there when she welcomed her little baby girl into this world. I've lost a few friends and gained a few more. And! On top of that, I got to meet my niece who I haven't seen since she was two. She is now nine years old and finally coming back into my life.

Though this year has been tough, I've learned a lot from it.

I'm looking forward to this upcoming year and the opportunities that I will have getting to know my niece, heading off to college, and all of these things.

Mere Christianity Question #30

People wonder if pride is really the worst sin of all. It is. Pride leads to every other sin. As C.S. Lewis said in Mere Christianity, "...it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind." The devil became who he is today because he became prideful and thought he was as good as God, because of that, God banished him from heaven. When we are prideful we are full of ourselves, leaving absolutely no room for God, and yet as Christians, God is supposed to be the center of our lives. C.S. Lewis also says, "As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you." Its similar to the idea of you looking at yourself in one direction, with God in the other and not being able to see God because you cannot take your eyes off of yourself.

We cannot let our pride control our lives. We must make God the center of our lives and the rest will just fall into place. You cannot be truly happy if you let your pride take control. C.S. Lewis states it perfectly, "For Pride is spiritual cancer: it eats up the very possibility of love, or contentment, or even common sense." We must let our pride go. If we remove our pride, we can let other people in, love them and love God.
